Bill's #3027

Here are a few pictures of "the engine that started it all". I made a custom set of decals for myself so that I could model this engine. When I showed it to some of the members of the train club that I'm in, they suggested that I get licensed by WC and sell them. That is how Scale Rail Graphics got started. My original plan was to custom paint 3027 and 3026 for my home layout, but the business has been so busy that I haven't had time to paint 3026 yet.

I started with and Athearn GP40-2 and filled the small viewing hole in the long hood. The horn was relocated to the middle of the long hood on the conductor's side ( as it was when painted... I think it has since been moved to the front of the cab roof on the prototype) and various details were added, including: high mounted bell, plow, ditch lights, hoses, drop steps, all weather window, etc...

The paint is Badger Model Flex WC Maroon (acrylic). I used my 31000-HO decals and several Microscale WC decal sets (GP40 set for the stripes & F45 set for the lettering) to finish the model.
